Dawn of Discovery Assistant is a program that is useable with the Dawn of Discovery PC game, also known as Anno 1404 outside the U.S. It shows you production chains and the amount of each civilization type supported by a single production chain.

The problem with building lots of houses is that you have to support that population - you have to keep them fed and happy. This isn't too much of a problem at the outset, but as the game progresses each resident's needs are going to increase drastically.Keeping them all happy means you've got to build a huge support network to meet all their needs.

Buildings of various types will need to be constructed to provide them with their 'intangible' needs, and production chains will have to be large enough to meet their need for goods and food. For instance, Peasants require Food, Drink, Community, and Faith. Production chains that provide fish and cider meet their Food and Drink requirements, but you'll need enough of each that you can support the population or they will move out. Community is provided by the Marketplace, and Faith from the Chapel (or other upgraded religious buildings).

These buildings have a limited radius, so you'll need enough of them to cover all your houses. When you 'level up' to Citizens, suddenly in addition to Peasant needs, you'll have to provide more goods - spices and linen garments. You'll also need taverns for amusement. Citizen homes hold more residents, so now you've got more of a demand for Peasant goods than you had before. Each successive 'level up' means more residents, and another tier's worth of goods to keep them happy. Most of the time, the limitation will be how much you can cram onto an island, and what other resources you have available. While you can spam houses early on in the game (and to an extent, you should focus on growing your population early), you can't just build forever. You will quickly exhaust your ability to provide for people, and they'll get angry, refuse to pay as much in taxes, and/or start to move away.As you add houses or level up residents, keep an eye on the stock of your goods in the warehouse, and compensate for shortages before you run out completely. You will eventually find the proper balance between residents and production that fits the resources (land and/or fertility) you have available.

I know this is old, but it seems like very few people have noticed this effect and I've been looking for guidance on this as well. I can't provide a reference, but if you want to see it in action, try the campaign, Chapter 7, where you focus on building an oriental settlement. At some point (1500 nomads?), each additional nomad house lowers your taxes. After that, when you upgrade a house to envoys, both the envoy tax income as well as nomad income will increase (even though you have fewer nomads now).–Nov 10 '19 at 21:20.

Anno 1404 is the fourth part of a popular economic strategy game series. The game takes you to Medieval Times (15th century), focusing on the World of Orient. You take control over a group of colonists who manage to get to the eastern coast of Asia.

The gameplay uses similar rules as the previous games in the Anno series do. In most cases the game starts on a ship, and you have to decide on which one of several available islands you want to set a camp. The key to success is constant development of your colony, which in time changes from a small village into a bustling metropolis.

The economy was based on mechanics well-known to the veterans of the series. Some of the player’s tasks are: fulfilling wishes of the colonists, creating effective production chains, meeting a demand for particular merchandise, or trading. At the same time you have to keep your funds stable, e.g. by regulating taxes.

The game offers an array of diplomatic actions. Sustaining friendly relations with the inhabitants of the uncharted lands can open a supply of oriental products, such as coffee or carpets. One of innovations in Anno 1404 is introducing influential sultans. You can get their favorable attention by constructing spectacular monuments or giving them rich gifts.

Ignition coil. The game features several game modes, including a single player campaign, in which you get to know the story of Lord Northburgh conflicted with a villainous archbishop, who aims to take hold of the Orient. Sandbox mode is another novelty. Here, the player does not have any set objectives, but can focus on development of his colony as he sees fit. Along with progress you get various rewards. You can also send your progress to other players.

Anno 1404 works on a completely new game engine, featuring even more visual effects than before. The game is played on bigger maps, giving the player more freedom. It is also noteworthy that you can slightly modify the appearance of buildings. In contrast to previous Anno games, where buildings automatically appeared on the map, now you can watch them being constructed. Other minor changes include wind simulation and more realistic water.
