If you do know the full scope of javascript, you won't be able to use it in hackmud.Scripting in hackmud is very limited. You will need to go to an outside resource to learn how to write scripts that can search text for pattern if you want to automate large portions of your gameplay.However, there are very rich players that have never written code.The reality is the game was designed with 4 different archetypes in mind.

One of them, the Architect, is the coder type of player. The other 3 are the infiltrator, the scavenger, and the executive. Some people are good at puzzles. They go after a target and do everything by hand, kicking clues up to their architect and receiving scripts as tools, never learning to code and still making progress. Some people have to be trustworthy enough to hold money and assets (and secrets) while other people take huge risks and then go into hiding.

Infiltrator scripts are things like exposing access logs, exposing transaction logs, writing dummy data to logs, etc. Based on what upgrades you have loaded at any given time, the system gives you a descriptor: weaver = architect, wolf = infiltrator. We don't know the other two yet. You can change your upgrades at any time, so no decision is permanent.

In fact, the one thing you have to come to terms with is that pretty much nothing is permanent expect your intelligence. I work with JS and can say that it's definately a game that will learn you to think programatically. However, the code I write for Hackmud would be horrible if it ever made it into a system at work. The game rewards you for using bad practices, and is more about trying to use the weird loopholes JS provides.

The main reason for this is the script length limitations imo.Other than that, I would recommend it for anyone wanting to learn programming as long as you try to understand what you're doing and why it's good/bad. The game doesn't hold your hand in any regard. A script is a script, and if it makes logical sense it will run.
